Due to the large volume of returns we, TravelTax, prepare each year, we are unable to schedule all the tax return consults in before the April 15th deadline. We provide a very specialized service for our clients and we work diligently to finish all returns as soon as possible – even if that means we must file an extension to complete the work after April 15th. The extension removes the Failure to File Penalty (5%/month to 25%).
Extensions extend the deadline for filing a return. It does not extend the deadline for payment of amounts due or any penalty for failure to pay amount owed by April 15th. If you owe nothing, there is no penalty or interest for failure to pay. Your withholding during the tax year should cover 100% of your tax obligation for the previous year (assuming income was similar) and 90% of current year tax obligation (110% if income is greater than 125K) or the IRS will impose an underpayment penalty for you not paying the tax as you earned the income.
We are not responsible for any tax penalties incurred for failure to pay or interest. We do not guarantee that we will file state extensions UNLESS we have documentation showing income was earned in that state. (Quite a few states accept the Federal extension for the state extension) The extension will just extend the filing of the return deadline to Oct. 15th (June 15th for some states if you owe). We do NOT file local extensions. The extensions will only prevent a failure to file penalty. If you have questions about local extensions, call our office; we may be able to advise you on how to do this.
TRAVELTAX DOES NOT DO EXTENSIONS FOR LOCAL RETURNS (i.e. SCHOOL DISTRICT OR RITA RETURNS) If you work in a state (or your home state) which has a local tax in addition to the state tax [PA, OH, IN, MO for examples], it is your responsibility to have your employer withhold the proper local tax during the year for that state to avoid penalties or make estimated payments during the year to cover this.
“I (We) have reviewed the above engagement letter and agree to the terms and conditions set forth. I (We) understand that because I (We) are unable to provide all our tax documentation to TravelTax by the March 15th deadline, TravelTax is not able to provide an tentative screening or any estimated tax vouchers (if there is a tax due) unless we request the tentative screening and meet the requirement on the TravelTax website (www.traveltax.com ) TravelTax will not be responsible for any failure to pay penalty or interest. I (We) hereby ask TravelTax to submit a federal (states only if documented) extension for me (us) without the tentative screening.”
